Services Provided to Seniors

  • Representation in court and at Medi-Cal and SSI hearings.
  • Negotiations with creditors and landlords.
  • Preparation of simple legal forms such as powers of attorney, homesteads, deeds, health care powers of attorney and elder abuse.
  • Outreach visits to homebound seniors and those in nursing homes or board and care facilities.

About Us

Our Purpose

To provide FREE legal services and community education to residents of Yuba and Sutter Counties who are 60 and over. Our priority is helping those seniors who are low-income or live alone or are over 75.

Our history

The Yuba Sutter Legal Center has been serving Yuba and Sutter County senior citizens since 1977.  Each year about 300 seniors are served by the Legal Center.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote seniors' self-sufficiency by enabling them to assert their legal rights, maintain financial independence, obtain health care, avoid abuse, etc.

Areas of Legal Assistance

• Protecting your Social Security and/or SSI over payments and terminations

• Helping you apply for and keep Medi-Cal, advice on paying for long-term care

• Property transfers after spouses death, Homesteads and etc.

• Housing issues, landlord/tenant matters, including evictions and repairs and maintaining utility

• Preparing powers of attorney and Advance Health Care Directives.

• Elder abuse (physical, emotional, and financial) and neglect, including restraining orders

• Debtor-creditor advice and assistance

• Consumer and home repair fraud
